Badge Number 115

Police Officer Arthur Ohlsen III

    On December 30,2003 Police Officer Arthur Ohlsen of the Town of Dover Police Department was killed in the line of duty.  On December 30.2003 at 2028 hrs Officer Ohlsen responded to a reported brush fire.  While directing fire units to the scene of the brush fire located under the South Salem Street bridge, Officer Ohlsen was struck by a New Jersey Transit Train.  Members of the Dover Police and Fire Departments all rushed to his aid and he was taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital by New Jersey State Police Medivac helicopter.  Officer Ohlsen an 18 year veteran of the Dover Police Department sustained critical injuries which took his life.  Officer Ohlsen is survived by his wife and two sons.  Officer Ohlsen proudly wore his badge bearing the number 115.  As a tribute to Officer Ohlsen's memory, no other officer has or ever will be issued that badge number.

Officer Ohlsen will be memorialized in the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington DC.  The location of his posting is 38 E Line 23.
